Food Drive

Whether you live in Hawai’I or are visiting, the beauty of the islands can sometimes mask the fact that food insecurity is an issue here as it is in many places in the country. According to a report from the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s College of Social Sciences, “Nearly half of all households with children in Hawaii are “food insecure,” with 15% simply not having enough to eat.

On Hawai’I Island, community members can do something to help by donating non-perishable food at drop-off bins situated throughout the resort. Monetary donations are also welcome and should be made out to The Food Basket, Inc.

Community members can donate non-perishable food at the following locations throughout Waikoloa:

• The food court at the Queens’ Marketplace
• A-Bay’s and Main Stage by Tiffany & Co. at the Kings’ Shops
• The golf shop at the Kings’ Course Clubhouse
• Main Lobby at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa

Waikoloa Beach Resort, Foundation, Queens’ Marketplace, and Kings’ Shops will all be making a matching monetary donation to The Food Basket for every pound of food collected during the drive.

Last year close to 1,000 pounds of food was collected and two anonymous donations were made, one for $25,000 and another for $30,000. Help make the holidays merry for everyone with your donation to The Food Basket this year.
