Kuleana Rum Shack

Kuleana Rum Works has been making rum on Hawai`i Island since 2013. Having experienced great critical success with their rums, the company wanted to take their product to the public. The new Kuleana Rum Shack does just that at a location that recently opened in Queens’ MarketPlace. Conceived as a world-class bar and family restaurant, the Rum Works operation will act in collaboration with Umeke’s Restaurants, who will provide the culinary expertise.
In choosing a partner, Kuleana Rum’s founders sought a company that shared their philosophy of kuleana: a restaurant company that created food with deliberate intent and personal accountability, using the highest-quality Big Island ingredients, and that produced meals that both locals and visitors appreciated.

The choice was Umeke’s, whose Kona- and Hilo-based restaurants are renowned for their poke bowls and other local foods. Thus, when customers dine at the Kuleana Rum Shack they will savor food that people of this island have been eating in their own homes for generations while also enjoying outstanding and unique cocktails made with Kuleana Rum and other world-class spirits.
