We\u2019re all in this together,\u201d is the theme for this year\u2019s Charity Walk, Saturday, May 14 at Waikoloa Beach Resort. The annual 3.1-mile run, walk (and snack) event was created by the Hawai\u2018i Lodging and Tourism Association in 1978 as a way for the visitor industry to \u201cwalk the walk,\u201d and give back to community.<\/p>\n<p>  Since then it has grown into a major fundraiser statewide, generating over $28 million in the last 37 years. In 2015 alone, 11,200 walkers raised over $1.8 million to help local charities, with funds raised on the island, remaining on the island to support numerous non-profit groups and noteworthy causes. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NRjtwUXPQq8?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>  Hotel and resort properties from across the island enjoy the friendly competition of Charity Walk, challenging each other to win the race, bring out the most participants, raise the most money, and serve up the best food. In addition, those chosen as beneficiaries will support the runners and walkers with aid stations along the scenic route from Queen\u2019s MarketPlace to Kings\u2019 Land by Hilton Grand Vacations, and back to Waikoloa Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>  \u201cThe Visitor Industry Charity Walk is something we in hospitality look forward to every single year,\u201d said Rob Gunthner, Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association-Hawaii Island Chapter Chair. \u201cBut it\u2019s not just for hospitality workers, anyone can participate. We\u2019d love for visitors to come and walk along with us, then join us over in the Bowl for some great music and entertainment, and outstanding food by our Waikoloa Beach Resort restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>  Participants of all ages can join in the morning exercise and camaraderie for a minimum pledge of $35 adults, $25 age 18 and under. Afterward, the expansive lawn of Waikoloa Bowl will take on a county fair atmosphere with 20+ food stands from the restaurant and hotel chefs, entertainment by DJ Tiger and Beyond Paradise, live radio broadcast by DC from B93, Eddy O with Native FM, and more.<\/p>\n<p>  Waikoloa Beach Resort is a complete destination resort that encompasses two championship golf courses and over 3,000 guest rooms in two upscale hotels, and seven luxury condominiums and vacation home properties.
