Waikoloa Beach Resort invites all \u2018ukulele lovers to B.Y.O.U. and join in the celebration of Hawaii\u2019s favorite musical instrument, at the 19th Annual Great Waikoloa \u2018Ukulele Festival on Saturday, March 2, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
The event begins with renowned teacher Roy Sakuma leading a free \u2018ukulele workshop at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at 10 a.m.. And the music continues all day, with live entertainment on three stages at Kings\u2019 Shops and Queens\u2019 MarketPlace, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., along with displays, demonstrations, and \u2018ukulele giveaways by sponsoring companies.<\/p>\n
Highlights of the all-star concert lineup include: \u2022 Herb Ohta, Jr., son of international music star Ohta-San, started playing at age three, helped his father teach classes, and made his own name as a composer, entertainer and N\u0101 H\u014dk\u016b Hanohano Award-winning recording artist. \u2022 Kris Fuchigami, a Hawai\u2018i Island musician who won the H\u0101m\u0101kua Music Scholarship Competition at the age of 15. Kris has released numerous CDs, and performed worldwide in his exciting style that pulls in elements of pop, rock and contemporary sound. \u2022 John Keawe, from North Kohala, is a master of k\u012b h\u014d\u02bbalu (slack key guitar), and winner of multiple N\u0101 H\u014dk\u016b Hanohano Awards over his long career. In 2005, he was a contributing artist on Hawaii\u2019s first Grammy Award, \u201cSlack-key Guitar Vol. 2\u201d by Palm Records.<\/p>\n
