Lavaman Keiki

The 15th annual Lavaman Triathlon was held at Waikoloa Beach Resort on Sunday, April 1, with more than 1,600 people taking part in the Olympic-distance races. But perhaps even more fun to watch were the Lavakids events which were held the previous day. In the Aquathon race for kids aged 7 to 10 (a 50-meter swim and a one-mile run) 10-year-old Caleb Westfall outpaced Silas Wiley by seven seconds to take first place in the 65-participant field.

In the Youth Triathlon for kids aged 11 to 15 (a 100-meter swim, a one-mile run, a two-mile bike, and a .5-mile run) 12-year-old Jamie Hellard beat 12-year-old Malcolm Davis by four seconds and 15-year-old Alexa Clark by six seconds to win in a tight finish. A total of 28 participants took part.
