Fun at the Beach and in the Ocean
What’s a Big Island Hawaii vacation without some beach time? Moments away from your hotel or condo, ‘Anaeho‘omalu Bay is a popular salt and pepper sand beach with a coconut grove of swaying palms and cool shade. Inland from the beach is an ancient Hawaiian fishpond that was once used to raise mullet for the Ali‘i, Hawaiian royalty, including King Kamehameha.
On the beach, Ocean Sports Hawaii has everything you need for fun family beach activities for kids of all ages: from snorkel gear and lessons, to boogie boards, kayaks and more. Or you can book a snorkel cruise, seasonal whale watch adventure, sunset cocktail sail or glass bottom boat tour.
Make a splash! Your Hawaii family vacation at Waikoloa Beach Resort makes it fantastic to get your feet wet. Our luxury Big Island resorts and condos offer spectacular water features: swimming pools with waterfalls, a drifting river through connecting pools, water slides and poolside cafes for cool drinks and great snacks. An oceanfront lagoon is home to green sea turtles and colorful tropical fish. And, it’s a great place for human families to play too—with hydro-bikes, kayaks, paddleboats, or water bikes for rent and peaceful, picturesque waters, perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
Keikis on Vacation
Wow. Kids have so much fun on their Big Island family vacation that Mom & Dad will want to play too. Waikoloa Beach Resort properties offer supervised children’s activities programs—like Club Keiki at the Hilton Waikoloa Village—with swimming and stargazing, a keiki lū‘au, Hawaiian storytelling, campfire night, “weird science” and more.
During the summer months, families can play golf together and save at the Kings’ course. Our “Family Golf Days” program lets you golf for only $50 for adults and $25 for juniors (after 3:30 p.m.), and includes junior Nike rental clubs.
Throughout the week, both Queens’ MarketPlace and Kings’ Shops present all kinds of fun activities and entertainment for keiki to enjoy—from lei-making and hula lessons to petroglyph tours, koi fish feeding, chocolate & coffee tasting, live music, free family movies, a community bike ride every Tuesday with Bikeworks Beach & Sports, and much more! Please check our current calendar of events and activities.

Ours are some of the best Big Island restaurants for kids, and we’re happy to accommodate special requests and dietary restrictions. But don’t be afraid to try something new—like poi—you might be surprised how much you like it!
