Ēwe O Ka Hula (Legacy of the Hula) The 10th Annual Celebration honoring Loea Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, with collaboration from local hālau, schools, youth organizations, and hālau from Japan and Europe, drew an appreciative crowd of over 2,500 on Saturday, May 5. This annual fundraiser benefitted Nā Wai Iwi Ola, a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the Hawaiian culture and traditions through the art of hula, and included Nā Hokū Hanohano’s Group of the Year 2012, Waipuna. As Kawaikapu took the stage during an evening filled with aloha under the fullest moon, he reflected the legacy awarded him as he shared a beautiful quote, “‘O ke aloha ka mea i ho`ōla ai,” (It is love/ compassion that brings healing).
